Orthotolidine Hydrochloride Test for Blood in Urine.

چکیده

The procedure previously described (Zwarenstein, 1949) has been modified as follows. A small knife-point (about 5 mg.) of solid o-tolidine hydrochloride is added to 5 drops of urine in a test-tube and thoroughly mixed. A drop of the mixture is placed on a small piece of Whatman No. 1 filter paper (about 17 mm. square) on a white porcelain tile. The drop is allowed to soak into the paper and one drop of acid-peroxide reagent is added.

Assessment of Routine Tests for Occult Blood in Faeces.

Routine chemical methods for the detection of occult blood in faeces depend on the peroxidase-like activity of haemoglobin and its iron-containing degradation products. The clinical value of these tests was first demonstrated by Boas (1901), using a method based on the guaiacum. test for blood described by van Deen (1861). Adler and Adler (1904) claimed that the colour reaction given by benzidi...

Bacteriological evaluation of two test methods for chlorine in swimming pools.

It was found that orthotolidine and plastic test strips containing a mixture of syringaldazine and vanillinazine gave different results as to chlorine content of water samples containing urine or large amounts of bacteria while giving consistently similar results with water samples having only sodium hypochlorite added. Orthotolidine was found to give erroneously "safe" readings when in fact vi...

A study of the sensitivity and specificity of four presumptive tests for blood.

The purpose of this work was to conduct a comparative study of the sensitivity and specificity of phenolphthalein, tetramethylbenzidine, leucomalachite green, and orthotolidine as presumptive tests for blood. The findings of this study indicate that the phenolphthalein and the leucomalachite green tests are the most specific and that the tetramethylbenzidine and orthotolidine tests are the most...

The stools of 71 neonates, 33 normal children, and 8 children with suspected g...

Selective Spectrophotometric Determination of Metformin Hydrochloride in Pharmaceuticals and Urine Using Two Nitrophenols as Chromogenic Agents

Metformin hydrochloride (MFH) is an oral anti-diabetic drug of biguanide class. Two selective spectrophotometric methods were presented for the determination of MFH in pharmaceuticals. The methods were based on the measurement of yellow-coloured charge-transfer complexes formed between MFH and two poly-nitrophenols, namely, 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP method, at 405 nm) and picric acid (PA met...
